Is it just from leaking? I am asking as I am aware that my pan has a slight leak (dealer quoted $900 to replace) however I have noticed lately a strong bump on downshift just before stopping. My 550i has 65k on it now and this just started over the last couple of weeks. I have read threads that talk about updating the software to fix this but was just wondering if the Megatronic sleeve may cause this as well.

And yes, weird things like that start to happen. Rough shifts, slow shifts, etc. Needs to be fixed, although $900 is high IMO

 

There is an o-ring on the electrical connector [aka 'sleeve'] to the transmission. Due to temp and age, that o-ring fails and results in trans fluid leak. Trans leak will be visible from the electrical connector on the side of the pan. If not detected and corrected in time, due to trans fluid leak, transmission starts to have problems. It's very critical to have correct amount of trans fluid. This trans leak from the sleeve, if not corrected in time, will result in major trans problems.

If I were you, I'd drop the pan, replace the sleeve, replenish trans fluid and put in a new filter+pan unit. It's very important to have correct amount of trans fluid is added.

 

in addition to whats said the car will have some rough shifting, vehicle may lurch forward when coming to complete stop, feels as if some bumps vehicle from behind maybe intermitant.... fluid leakin after engine coffin is removed or low transfluid...... definetly an diy job there are plenty of write ups on google... you can also find the part on ebay its calle e60 mechatronic valve sleeve it costs like $23.00

 

Transmition oil pan and ring change it . My car did the same thing to me after replacing these two parts problem gone thanks god . All I spend was $ 147 on pan & ring and $ 160 on oil and labor .

 

a leaking mechatronics seal wont cause the issues described above. its just a seal where the electrical connector enters the trans. however if the associated leak is ignored and you lose enough fluid, then the low fluid level will cause issues.

I have done extensive repairs to my transmission learning allot along the way. Since we have the same car i can assist.

The mechatronic sleeve indeed is a double seal sleeve. No need to drop the exhaust as some suggest. You need 2 long screwdrivers, a soft handled tool like a dead blow hammer to manipulate the connector and sleeve, and a hook tool.

The secondary shift issues are a software update. Usually 2-1 tip in if it is bumping off-idle. Unfortunately these transmissions can be really troublesome. Best of luck!
