The Check Engine Light (CEL) can be set off my a number of things. It is basically a 'general warning light' tied to dozens of different sensors in your vehicle. It can be triggered by an emmissions leak, bad o2 sensor, gas cap leak or not screwed back on, spark plug misfire, evap emmissions sensor failure, pvc leak, etc., etc., etc.)
The only way to validate where the error is coming from is from an OBDII (on-board diagnotics) code reader. This can be purchased for about $99 from any parts store. The readers will not only diagnose the code, but can also clear the code.
Once a CEL code has been cleared, it will stay off unless the fault happens again. Also, some CEL lights will go out by themselves after a certain number of 'cycles' by the system. (This is why even when it goes off for a gas cap issue, it will not immediately turn off when you put the gas cap back on. )
In short, don't guess at your issue based on what set off others CEL lights. You'll waste a lot of time and potentially a lot of money. If you don't want to purchase an OBDII reader, AutoZone will let you use theirs at no charge. (or if you happen to be in the area, you're more than welcome to use mine).

so is this hole common on our cars?
what will make this hole?
what will make this hole?
Have a look in the fuel compartment. The hole in my car was directly below the filling hole. The piece is rubber.
It is designed to move with the weight in the fuel tank. My car has just reached 50K miles,I dont believe this to be a very robust material.
