Question What is stock battery for 04 530i?

Hello,

I am trying to determine the kind of programming i need for my battery replacement but i do not know if my car came with AGM (Black) or Calcium (White) battery.

Right now, i have a standard Interstate MTP93 battery; which should be a replacement for the White battery. If this is the correct battery, all i need is a standard reset.

However, if my vehicle came with the Black battery, and i plan to keep the MTP93 standard battery, then i will need my vehicle to be reprogram to charge the battery correctly + standard reset.

My car was produced in October 2003 but is 2004 model year.

Please help and let me know if my car came with AGM Battery or Calcium battery.

Thank you!

The answer is possibly more complex. It is possible your car came with one type and was reprogrammed to accept the other type along the way. The car could also have been reprogrammed to accept a different size/capacity battery along the way. If you want to assume that was never done, then just get the same thing as is in there now. The Interstate MTP93 is 90Ah, 850 CCA flooded battery (i.e. not AGM). If you want to check what your car is programmed for now and/or change it, take a look at this post:

Thanks for the reply. I checked the PDF and looks like i need the software and the tool to check it.

I've been calling around local shops and one shop says he recommend EXIDE AGM battery and programming for $300 out the door. I think i am going for it because seem like most shops charge $50-200 for programming only and OEM BMW EXIDE Battery run about $300 at the dealer; so $300 for all and installed seem like best considering it is EXIDE AGM.

I think $300 for both battery and programming is a decent price. You can get the battery (either flooded or AGM) at Advance Auto Parts for like $150-ish with the online coupon.

Thanks! I just pulled the trigger on the Exide Edge FP-AGML4/94R and they did the install & programming for $300.

I honestly not sure if the programming happened but i am crossing my finger and taking their word for it. Reason is first Tech with Snap-On code reader said there isn't option for Battery Programming and then Owner went out with his Laptop and said he did it. So we'll see.
