I am posting a long improvement / wish list,:
Comfort exit added to CA (car should lock by itself when we leave the car after moving away at distance) - I don't always want the car to lock when I'm away from it
Memory settings for: rear view mirror, cruise control, some controls and electronics
Blind spot detection: without turning head(Volvo) and glass behind passenger seat on sides(Audi)
Air vents on the pillars(Audi) - I think it already has some sort of flow thru ventilation
Lane departure prevention system and 360 degree parking monitor(Infiniti) - I like the BMW version of "Lane Departure WARNING" by vibrating the wheel without actually doing something to prevent/correct the lane departure. I NEVER want the car deciding where I'm supposed to go. DSC on the otherhand HELPS me go where I want to.
Factory tint option: all windows, moonroof and windshield - Illegal in many states.
Auto Gear shifter behind the steering wheel (7 series) - YUK, I REALLY like the paddles on the sport auto and often use the shifter like a manual when pulling away from a stop
Slant/Angle platform for window glass control and not touching the legs - I agree the sloped down armrest and long reach to the window controls is the biggest design flaw of the LCI E60. It hurts my leg to brace on the armrest (when on track or even a curvey road). The sharp hard edge may also be the cause of the poor side impact test.
Instrument panel oriented towrds the driver(Audi) - I agree, why did they go away from the E39 design?
Stop and Start system -?
Panoramic moonroof option - Not enough room in the sedans
Snow mode switch with cold weather package - See threads on DTC/DSC
Passenger side dome with some screen -?
BMW roundel emblem on seats(back), Sun-prescription glass compartment(driver and passenger) - I think thats what the small area in the front of the door pocket is for
Drive mode option(sport-Luxury-Quiet mode) - Use the sport button (comes with Sport Auto), but more effect would be cool
More color choices interior (similar to 7 series- same one color option : roof-pillars-seats and floor)
Rear view camera option and DVD entertainment system(passenger side and rear)

I agree, BMWNA seems to "dumb-down" the options for the US market. They should at least offer them as available factory order options

05 F350 TD Crew Cab
04 Range Rover HSE
91 964 C4 Cabrio
07 997 Turbo Cabrio
at least a couple of analog gauges showing engine information
selectable ride level, which would auto lower at higher speeds
remember personal selects after engine off
twin variable vain turbochargers, with intercoolers and a cold induction system
sultry french accent on voice command (yes, I am really hung up on this)
kill the kill switch at Vne
but if I really had my way, I'd sit down with the powers to be at BMW and discuss with them how important it is to manage and operated the service departments in a way that makes the customer decide to buy another BMW.

1) SMG gearbox always starts in manual mode; why not start in the same mode where you left in on your last drive ?
Because it is a manual, basically .
2) I-drive monitor can be switched "off"; if you do so the LCD screen still seems to be lit. Why not switch it of completely ?
+1
3) the navigation map on the screen through the HUD and the night vision too, because it isn't doable driving without watch the windscreen .

To project the night vision onto the HUD would be so expensive nobody would buy it. You are talking about showing a black an white image on a polarized invisible film and still make it clear enough to actually see the image....

My Ride: I have a 2007 Black Sapphire BMW 530i with SMG. It has the auburn interior, has PDC, Sports Package, Premium Package, rear automatic sunshades with manual side sunshades, 35% black tint, Upgraded angeleyes from Angelibrights, and Logic 7 Sound System
Model Year: 2007
if I payed this much for a car, I think it should be able to at least show me the temp of the car ( not those bars on the RPM gauges) and comfort access should be standard, I mean...they really are going to cheap you for a grand? ALso, I like the idea of auto close trunk and I think BMW navigation system sucks. They need to reengineer the navigation aspect of the car and learn from acura and lexus.

A few things...
An engine oil level dipstick so those of us who don't want to wait 15K miles or 12 mos. can more easily change/check our oil.
Rear view camera integrated into the Nav screen (Lexus) or the rear view mirror (Lincoln).
More storage in the center console...and easily removable change shelf.
Driver's seat slide back along with the wheel raising for the "easy ingress" option...
Pop out Ashtray enclosures (rear door map pocket storage area) so those of us who don't smoke aren't penalized for storage space....
Simplify the phone functions and in general the I-Drive system...include an in car hard drive/memory so a person could download their address book/contacts and at least be able to open that file and search for numbers or build a phone book that is stored in the car's memory. I have a Treo 650 and have to manually dial each number - very frustrating, time consuming AND dangerous while driving.
Better sound system - more power, more power!! Logic 7 is good quality but seriously lacking in power for classic rock tunes, etc.
Real seat cooling - not just fan ventilation - and available with any of the leather interiors
Oh, almost forgot - the basic guage package - temp, oil pressure, etc.
Make other market options available like the key fob "global close" ...even if the owner has to sign a waiver.
Steering wheel electronic tilt...fix it so it will come all the way down with the memory setting - so I don't have to always manually get it to go down that last 1" of travel each time I start the car.
Just my .02

Back up camera
Comfort Access must be standard with Premium Package (like on Miata!)
Side mirrors should automatically fold in when car placed in park (can this be programmed?)
Light needed in center console.
Easier access to insert Ipod or USB
Nav should have feature to select destination using phone number.

I really enjoy my E60 but there are a few things that would make it just better; these are the things that annoy me;
1) SMG gearbox always starts in manual mode; why not start in the same mode where you left in on your last drive ?
2) I-drive monitor can be switched "off"; if you do so the LCD screen still seems to be lit. Why not switch it of completely ?
I know these are just small things and they actually indicate how good the car is. Still I'd like to know what you think should improve on the E60.
Thanks, Midget

Definitely more storage within easy reach of the driver. The door pockets are not deep enough to hold sunglasses or gloves without feeling like they are going to fall out when you open the door. That little opening in the dash is a joke--anything you put in there (phone, wallet, money clip) will slide out under cornering or acceleration. My small CD case takes up most of the glove compartment, and my sunglasses cases fill the net in the passenger footwell.
My e46 coupe had far more storage room, and I didn't have to be a contortionist to reach something while sitting at a stoplight.
So, late adopter, get rid of the CDs you say? No problem, I'll hook up my iPod to the factory dash jack beneath/on the tuner, which should be there on a current model year luxury sedan (even my friend's Jetta has one), right? Nope, I get to pay several $100 for that to be retrofitted. I agree with a lot of what others have said about more substantial issues as well.
