I am drawing a blank on the name but in the sport package it mentioned having Shadowline trim or something like that-what does that mean?

Shadowline trim is the piece that borders your doors. Normally it would be chrome, but when you get the sport package that piece becomes black to give it a more sportier look. Get it?

Ahh-I thought that silver/chrome piece was just a different year and some years had black trim. I cant say I have seen many with the chrome-the sport package must be a popular option

However I am 100 percent certain now that I think of it that I have seen non-sport 5ers without the chrome/silver and they had black trim-is this an option by itself>?

The chrome.silver looks like crap IMO

Nope, all sport models come with the shadowline trim. However, I believe with the M5 you can get Chrome trim. Why you would, beats the hell out of me. All bimmers should come with shadowline trim. Chrome trim doesn't work well with the lines on the E60.

And you can have it in 2 ways, just shadowline which is matt black or in high gloss black, which looks cracking on a black car.

You are right, even non-sports E60s could be had with Shadow line as an option. A popular option with E60 buyers.

My '02 E39 525i had a sport package without the shadowline trim and I hated it! As shallow as it sounds, one of the reasons I didn't buy a new 335i coupe (among other reasons) was because of the lack of the shadowline. The chrome looks good IMHO, but the shadowline looks great.

"High gloss" shadowline is a another ridiculous thing that BMW make you pay for, when it should be a no cost option, especially on sport models.
