What is the purpose of the light on the mirror?

My Ride: 2005 525i Titanium Silver Metalic and 2003 325xi Jet Black with the Premium Package in both cars.
I love those light in the dark of night......really cool. Its just another aspect of the true beauty associated with BMW. I wish my 3 had them also.......oh well!!!!!!!!

As stated earlier, the lights under the side view mirrors are for lighting the pathway. They are actually aimed with a bias toward the rear of the car so that you could see the floor in front of each door at night.

They're standard on the E90 3 series!!!! Its not on the mirror but each door handle gets them! All 4 doors! But optional on 2 mirrors on the E60... *sigh*
