What grade of oil should I use in my 530D - the UK manual is not clear as it seems to recommend just BMW products.

BMW approves any oil that conforms to their LL01 specifications for E60 530d (M57TU engine )

They include

Castrol TXT LL01 5W30 ( used exclusivley by our dealers here )
Castrol SLX LL01 0W30

Mobil 1 0W-40
Mobil Turbo Diesel 0W-40

BMW Reccomends Castrol

Magnatec is only a semi synthetic oil, and is not on the approved list
The car needs fully synthetic oil

Are you thinking of servicing the car yourself or is it just a top-up thing? My friend had an E39 that he had serviced by a non BMW garage and when he came to trade they knocked off a ?1,000 per non BM service. I just had my first service at 16,000 miles and they charged me ?190.00 to change the oil and tell me the tyres were almost worn out. Not great value but still money in the bank.
