Mine behave differently too. After my key died (another thread) and I started using the second master key, my door locks no longer default to locked. The car used to lock down as soon as I got rolling. It no longer does so.
The information being passed is pretty ingenious IMO. Rather than hook the car up to diagnostics, the SA can just plug the key into a reader (he has it anyway when he fills out your paperwork) and voila - he knows how it's doing.

Yeah, but I don't know of a place in the car to set the locking behavior. Same goes for stuff like the DRLs. I think both of those get set by the dealer or service dept. I agree - things like seat position, etc... that's all memory buttons.
