What is it for and how it works - the valley pan (top cover)
For example in the N62 V8

it is 1 and 2 and as I understand it, one of the pump outputs enters here with a thick pipe, but then, it flows out somewhere?
PS or the view as below - is it the effect of leakage of the gasket in this thick pipe in which the coolant is

The valley allows coolant from the rear of the motor to flow to the radiator. The valley pan not only seals the top of this canal but also converts it into a set of ducts that channel coolant to the water pump.
