Probably a belt disintegrated.

Could be the alternator just died, if it did check to see if the belt actually moves. Sometimes when the alternator dies it seizes the pulley and then the belt may be there but unable to actually turn the alternator.
After the pop was there any noticeable smoke? Any smells? If you don't see or smell anything immediately open the fusebox under the hood and check the relays, one may have blown, which would be best case scenario since relays are typically way cheaper than alternators.

No there was no smoke but the only smell I noticied was the one from me when this 18 wheeler was about to plow in to me from the rear from my car loosing power and I was trying to get it to to he shoulder of the road expressway.
