It came with the options I chose on my car, so I don't know what the stand alone price is, but I like it. The exterior lights under the each mirror are 5 LED blueish lights ("puddle lights") and they light up the ground around the sides of the car pretty well in the dark, actually a much wider area than the picture shows. I don't think the interior ambient lights are designed to light up the interior of the car, but to provide a soft glow to those areas of the car that you use. You also get the two lights over the center console, that I believe is standard on all BMWs. The brightness is adjustable with the dash light brightness knob or whatever that thing is called. I keep my dash and nav screen fairly dim at night, and the interior ambient lights are noticable and provide a nice touch.

BMW should really look at what Audi is doing with their lights package. Its much cooler! you get neat blue leds under all the exterior door handles too. wish bmw would do this!

Yes, I have seen a jacked-up Peugeot 106 GTi on Brighton seafront with the same lights

Get real, BMW will never ditch it's trademark amber lighting

that is true it's a bit boy racer like. But i meant the effect is what bmw should copy. Not the blue colour. Their extended lights pack is not nearly so bright as audi's.

It's meant to be subtle. Classy. The Audi is a bit garrish if you ask me. (No surprise there.) It's almost mood lighting.

BTW, have you seen the new S Class lighting? It sweeps across the front dash, and I want to say it's one of those pricey appearance packages that cost a couple 'o grand. It's similar to the Audi in color and execution, but to goes across the dash and along the center panel.
