Default What exactly is a CCC?

2006 530xi

The iDrive (i.e. display/stereo/everything else) went out over a year ago. (No NAV.) At the time the dealer said I need a new CCC...$1600

I did some googling and was able to determine that CCC stands for something like Computer Control Center. But I was unable to determine what exactly is a CCC. Is it a simple module? Is it the whole CD-radio unit? Or is it contained inside the CD-radio or the iDrive display? Can someone please enlighten me? Thanks!

FWIW my local mechanic told me I just needed a new display, according to his scanner. So he showed me where to find a used one on ebay. So I purchased one and brought the car in. After 3 weeks, neither he nor his specialist outsourcers were able to install the new one and get it to work. According to him, they both managed get it to work for a period of time before it would simply stop working again (without bothering to reset my clock or tire sensors). I'm not inclined to believe him, even though he gave me a great deal (compared to stealership) with the first repair he did for me (serpentine belt and crank case gasket replaced, ~$350).

CCC is basically the whole CD player/ Nav disc reader assembly that is directly behind the two CD slots on your dash. If you were to remove that trim plate around the CD slots, you'd see a big shiny box about 6 inches wide, 5 inches tall, and 5 inches deep - that is your "CCC drive".

FWIW I have only 1 CD slot and no NAV. I assume that makes no diff.

Thanks!

Oops. I guess I should be searching for CD/radio.

If you don't have nav, your unit is a mASK. If you have nav then your unit is a CCC. If you are going to buy another unit and you don't have nav, you might want to consider getting a CCC unit so you can upgrade it to the nav, or you could buy another unit and modify it like the 2010 cic units.

Makes a big difference. If you have only one CD slot, you have a MASK unit.

CCC is the dual slot unit for cars with navigation.

Not hijacking the thread but just the question.I too have MASK and thinking upgrading it to CCC or CIC. I have read several thread with DIY but still confused about the GPS antenna. Is all MASK units prewired for GPS or I need to put antenna on dashboard?

Ok if I have to add it is this going to rest on dashboard?
