[/quote]Yes the voice activation makes all the difference. Infact it takes system to a whole new level of useability. I never mess with the airflow. It is set on auto all the time. The system does it.

I love Idrive. Once you get used to it - no problems. I think the screen is perfectly placed keeping your eyes on the road. Car mags keep raving about the A6's MMi system, yes it may be simpler to use but you have to spend time looking down for buttons that surround the main controller. Other cars screens are too low down the dashboard.
Negative side - Pro nav is too slow to react where as bus nav is instant.

Agreed. Have you noticed Audi's version of i-drive on their new cars? BMW was ahead of the curve on this technology, and in a few years, this will be a common feature of desirable cars.

Once I discovered (from a post here) that holding the iDrive button down (toward Entertainment) returned you directly to your last selection, I became a total convert.
Does anyone know of any other tips or shortcuts?

most who trash iDrive probably haven't used it much..... after a week with it, it's great.... I can't agree that it's the best system in any car though....
Lexus, Acura, and Infiniti's systems are faster and easier to use......

I am having a hard time understanding what the gripe is.? I think it is incredibly intuitive, and the best system I have seen on a car.? I have had my ride for two weeks now, and although it took some time to really get used to it, today I realized I have got it.? If you get stuck, just hit the menu button and start over.
One member was selling their car because they hate it so much.? I just dont get it.
Thoughts?

Those that do not like it already made up their mind against it before ever using it. One quick push and pull pack and you can easily scroll through all of your radio stations. The volume control has a knob. A/C is automatically set and has a knob. I'm not sure what else you need to use it for on a daily basis. What could be easier than that?
BTW, my VCR did blink 12:00 until I got a Tivo.
