With the rollout of Low Emissions Zones barrelling along around the world, and particularly within the EU, does anyone here know of, or have links to, some form of definitive listings of what emissions norms our cars meet? Perhaps even a BMW-document?

The most-often referred to standards I am running into are Euro-1 through Euro-4, but I do not see very clear make-and-model specific classifications. For example, Euro-4 applies to diesels registered in the EU after 1-Jan-2006 or diesels registered between 1-Jan-02 and 31-Dec-05 with a retrofitted particle filter. My car was registered 11-Nov-05, but has a factory fitted particle filter. No idea therefore which category it falls into, and it is soon going to make a difference as to which cities I am able to drive into, particularly in Germany and Austria.

Anyone got any more info on this?

I'm almost certain your car is EU4. As as far as the diesels go I think if the tailpipes are horizontal the car has a particulate filter and is EU4 compliant whereas the downturned tailpipes indicate it doesn't have the filter and is therefore EU3.

Is there anything on the registration paperwork?

Thanks for the input!!

I've got the straight tail pipes indeed and know for a fact that there is a particulate filter in the thing. The registration papers bear no information whatsoever on the norm rating. There is one line of information that may just be the local registration authority's certification number for the particulate filter, but that's just a guess. Half the codes on the reg. papers are cryptic as heck.
