I am surprised that you feel that the DVD playing engine and firmware will not have undergone evolution over that timeframe and to make that assessment based on its functionality is somewhat... well...
All we can garner from this is what works for US.
We are not intellectually empowered to make a recommendation from a vast tract of empirical data for the e60 and its ability to handle specific media, especially when there are the external factors described in my earlier post.
Scenario: You/I have a good/bad writer with a good/bad write strategy for DVD plus/minus(dash) R/W media and are using good/bad DVD plus/minus(dash) R/W media in a player in our e60 which performs well/poorly with DVD plus/minus(dash) R/W media.
If you can pick a recommendation out of that, then you are probably more employable than you have been told!
