I have a 05 545I with SMG. The manual does not really address the sport mode. I realise with a automatic there are some differences with it, but does anyone really know what it does with the SMG transmission? I don't really feel too much difference with it activated...

on sport throttle is alot more responsive, it revs up higher before it shifts in automatic mode, and it shifts quicker (harder). You really gotta give it gas to feel the differences

The most noticable thing is that the shifts are MUCH quicker in Sport Mode.

Faster/quicker shifts, re-map throttle, heavier steering

In addition to the above, there is also a change the the Servotronic steering feel.

You can learn all about the SMG (and specifically the Sport mode) by reading my monster SMG .pdf file in the Tech Gallery:

Pay particular attention to the bookmark labeled "SPORT button for Dynamic Driving Control" and it's sub-topic. It should tell you everything you need to know...

Yeah the first few times I pressed it, I didn't really notice a big difference. Now that I'm used to my car, I can tell that its a big difference.
