I have the literature which came with my 08 which gives a slightly different description of what BMW Assist usage will result in a charge and those that won't -than what my dealer told me. Then, when at a different dealership while traveling, I was told a slightly different explanation of what usage is free and which will result in a charge.

I paid for the first year back in 06, used it once to check on a restaurant reservation (just to see it work).
I haven't paid the subscription since. I may be mistaken, I think the SOS feature will still work.

It can be very useful but it is costly.

I don't use it but we do renew it for Mrs. sixcard's E90.

I like the fact it comes with the car free for the first three years. The staff are always very helpful and proffesional, can send the destination or phone number straight to the car and the fact I can send info to the car as well. In fact I really like Assist and wish my car had BMW online as well. The only bad thing about it is that once the three years are up it cost ?120 per year in the UK and I dont use it enought to justify that cost when it comes. Also I dont think the SOS works unless you subscribed to the service.

How many years of free service do you get with a car in the US?

I like the ability to have BMW Assist send Points of Interest to the satnav in particular. I also like knowing I have ACR and SVR although I hope I won't need to use them. I also hope I won't need them to remotely unlock my car, although I'm glad that feature is present as well.

What's to dislike? They are not that strong on finding nearby low gas prices when you call, even though this is a feature they offer.

There was an article about some new programing on the 09-10s , in Roundel. New crash predicting algorithm, helps determine what is needed by the EMS..

BMW wants to know why so few people renew it after the trial period is up... COST. GM loses over 50% ( Think it is much higher) after 1 year for Onstar customers. BMW 's service is even more expensive, an most of what it can do , is now for free or greatly enhanced on most GPS's.

If they really are concerned with improving safety drop the cost , They cars are expensive enough. Ford has come up with a system for the Sync 2.0's that uses your existing cell phone to call 911.... cost Zero....

Take a hint , near zero people will use it, over $100 a year not many will, Even at $9.99 a month GM can keep people subscribing.

Thanks. I recently got an 08 CPO but haven't tried the BMW Assist yet, I'll try it tonight!
