Looking goofy for a 20 hour drive or beating yourself for forever for severe rock chips all over your front bumper, the choice is yours.
FYI, when we had the socal SLO meet, I drove to SLO and up to NorCal and when I got home and cleaned up my bumper, it looked like someone ran light sandpaper across the front bumper. I would have taped it to hell if I knew that was going to happen to prevent that any day.

You are liable to have a car photographer take pictures of it thinking it is a new model in disguise.LOL
The only thing I would really worry about would be how the tape is resistant to uv and heat. Some of these tapes are sensitive and become fused to the paint. I have no idea how this tape would react but I think a few phone calls to 3M could be a good idea.
I remember the older tapes that would actually harden on window glass while painting and the tape removal was worse that the paint.
