I'm mellowing to the international slightly american voice BUT in a fit of 'i took the turn you told me .... Ooooop's ok you were right and i was to quick'..... I've called my Sat Nav Person .... Hilary

I call her "Shut Up!"

I have her voice off all the time! I guess the HUD directions make it easier for me so I have no need for her dulcet tones.

After mine instructed me to "if possible, please make a u-turn" while I was in an under-water twin-tube tunnel, I have christened her "Holly" - in tribute to the computer from Red Dwarf.

I think it does some form of dead-reckoning based on driving speed & steering inputs when there's no sat reception. I drive through a 1.2km-long tunnel to get to and from the motorway on my daily commute and the radio always dies, but the nav screen always continues to show my pogress through the tunnel smoothly. My E39 did the same thing. Have never noticed if the lat/lon display changes though. Will check on my way home this evening.

The system uses dead reckoning for sure (the E39 did too.)
