I don't know about the US for sure, but here's the changes for Germany:

Wood or Aluminium trim will get exended to the lower part of the center dashboard (button surroundings, pdc, etc....), surroundings of window switches will be painted black (shiny), the DSC button gets renamed DTC (no change in function), poplar wood will also become available in light (not dark only), TV function costs 100 Euro more and has digital TV too, price adjustments on SMG, nav pro now doesn't need to be combined with advanced A/C and becomes stand alone option, BMW online is included for free (first 6 months of service free), BMW assist now only free for the first 6 months (not 12 anymore), and some other minor changes (see attached file - in German).

In the Middle East they are reportedly selling the 2005.
I presume it would have been produced 2-3 weeks back considering the 2 weeks of shipping time.

In August it's the summer break in school and in Dingolfing. That's when they start making the changes for the soon to begin MY2005. September is official MY2005 SOP. That's what I've been told by a friend who works in Munich and by my salesperson...
