Thumbs up

What is the difference between the e60 "M" sport steering wheel and the Genuine e60 "M5" Blue-Red stitches steering wheel? (I noticed the "M" sport steering wheel cost around $499.00, and the M5 one cost around 899.00 and I cant see that much difference in the two other than the M5 Blue-Red stitch)

Thanks in Advance!!

i've had both M sport and M5 .. the quality of the leather is amazing compared to the regular wheel. so smooth and soft. it's thicker. the stitching. can't think of anything else. though it does have a nice little button with an M on it and yes, i know that wouldn't actually cost any different!

there are three wheels that fit the round airbag. the first is the "sport" e60 one, which doesn't have thumbrests and isn't much thicker than the trapezoid wheel. This is the one that is on the 6-series, and all E60s with the sport package after MY06. The second is the "M Sport" which has a considerably thicker rim, has the thumbrests, but still has black stitching. then there's the //M wheel, same as the M Sport but with red/blue/white stitching, and possibly different leather (haven't held this one in the flesh, so not sure.) The leather on the M Sport one feels better than the leather on the "sport" one.

depending on your build date you may not be able to fit all of them to your car. I got the M Sport one for <$400 from Gary.

you can fix that for $40 and 4 torx screws. I transferred the //M plate off the original insert, not just the //M sticker, so it's nice and recessed. Sorry for the bad quality, my crackberry's camera stinks. note the thumbgrips.

i've always wondered if the M5 steering wheel would fit my '08 535 LCI with paddle shifters? they're both round aibags.

All of my previous research confirms everything outlined in the three types above. One other difference though: The standard "Sport" wheel CAN come with the heating element if you have the Cold Weather package, the "M Sport" wheel doesn't. The M Sport is definitely the better, sportier wheel (exactly like my previous E39's Sport Package) so I'm going with it and will not worry about losing the few times it would have been nice to feel the heated rim. I live in Florida plus I figure the heated seats will be more than enough!

Btw, I was also told the leather on the M5's was a finer quality but not enough to justify the extra cost. It's simply that they produce far less of them and anything custom made for the few 'real' M5's of the world is going to be a lot more expensive for that reason.

Def try Garry from Newport.
