I just got a '08 528i (w/nav). Is it possible to load a hard drive with MP3s and play it through the I-Drive or do you have to connect an actually player(ipod or other)?

I have a dedicated USB drive with MP3s on it...
When the USB option first came up a few reported that a HD works... just certain kinds tho. not all.

Cool,.. is there a size limit? Is there a app your can load on the drive also to give you access to lists for albums, songs, artists, playlists, or do you have navigate the directory of the drive.

I would think you would go to the spot in idrive where you select your source, select usb and then it will most likely show the folder list on your usb device to browse through just like folder on your computer. Try it out and let us know

Not sure about GB limit... I have a 8GB and its fine, but I think there's a 500 song limit, not sure I never tried. but as far as playlists I just made folders with the songs in it as playlist... so yes there are duplicate mp3s of the same song taking up space but I'm only using 4GB of my 8GB so it doesnt bother me.
I'm sure it can read higher capacity drives without a problem... I'm guessing from the standards at least up to 32GB
