Hahaha yea, it really was a perfect launch, I couldn't believe it myself

Try it a couple times! It's fun
Right on Marc. Starting off in D = starting off in second gear = getting owned by lesser cars off the line

I agree with most of your launch technique. In addition to what you said, I start in M1 -- not D -- and I turn off the air condition and I disable DSC all the way but holding the button down for several seconds.
I've always wondered how to do the optimum launch with the e60. Thanks Guys!

So in summary its:
Step 1: DSC fully Disabled + turn of A/C
Step 2: Engage M1 for Autos
Step 3: Left foot on Brake
Step 4: Right Foot on Accellerator pressed down to the floor (should rev upto 2500-3000)
Step 5: Release Left Foot off Brake and off you go.

Is this safe to do....like all the time for the car?

Add a step to put transmission in M1 (if an Auto Trans).

I have read some posts which say that the AC is disabled when the throttle is at WOT but to be sure, I shut the AC off when I want maximum acceleration from a stop.

Brake torquing as described above is not great for the lifespan of an automatic transmission but if you are only doing this occassionally, you'll be fine.

Here is a useful website on launch tecniques: http://www.modernracer.com/tips/dragracing...techniques.html

Like yoga and Sarah Palin's daughter, nothing is safe to do all the time. However, the cost of the eventual damage to your transmission, brakes, differential, and engine will be offset quite well by the satisfaction you surely will acquire by knowing that everyone around you thinks you are a complete f*cking idiot.
