Press the switch once and the DSC is off but DTC is left on. Press and hold the switch and you'll see a DTC off message.

Hey Rudy, I hate to tell you but you're wrong on that one. It's the other way around.

Cool, I didn't know that. I don't think anything shows on I-drive in mine. There's just an orange warning on the dash. An orange circle with an arrow and the letters dsc in orange. Gotta try that..

Here is what I do with SMG as an alternative to AA.

1. Turn off both DTC and DSC.
2. Put selector in N
3. Put left foot on brake.
4. Rev engine to about 4500. (depending on traction conditions)
5. Put selector in D just as you are taking left foot off brake.
6. Hold on.

I find it gives me more control of the engine speed than with AA. The reason for the brake is because SMG locks you out of D from N when the car is at a standstill unless your foot is on the brake.

The M5 won't be so much fun if it is this difficult to light up the tires!

Have fun with your car, but assuming you have an automatic, I'd be wary of holding the car with the brake while increasing the revs. I'd just do it once in a while myself.

For the manual, it's really simple to "burn rubber," but I do believe that the CDV prevents you from dumping the clutch. Though in an attempt to get a fast start/good launch, my rear tires have lost traction without even trying.

Normally, I just get the tires to chirp in second gear and I'm happy.

The M5 will have No problem I'm sure.

GEARS5: Very intersting. I have yet to find the testicular fortitude to try that. How's it been working out for you?

isn't this really bad for an automatic transmission?

Yes, that is very bad for an automatic transmission.

I believe that he's describing the technique for SMG.

The only way i've got mine to 'light em up' is to deactivate dsc/dtc and then the car needs a little angle upon start, in other words no straight line. Deactivated dtc/dsc will let the tires spin, unless mines broken
Quite a bit of water in my parking lot, so I tried again today, fishtailed twice
