You need the Advanced Climate Control to get the vent in the there on a pre-LCI car. I wonder why BMW in their wisdom took that out for LCI cars, don't LCI owners need cool drinks?

It is there in LCI cars, mine has the vent.

i have it on my non lci and now i finally know what its for... i was thinkin about retro fitting an aux jack there but now think it may be impossible since its a vent?
i seriously need some mp3 playback... 70 gigs of songs and only 7 regular cds of space

There is a retrofit kit available which replaces the vent with the USB/audio jack and it cost about ?220. The downside of it is that the cars needs to have a ULF High handsfree charge unit fitted for it to work and if you dont have that the cost adds right up.
