Hey all of you. I was wondering if you could help me with this one: yasterday I noticed that if I rotate the steering wheel maximum to the roght or maximum to the left, I hear a strange noise coming from the front wheels, a strange and unpleasent noise. As I read on othrt forums the noise would be normal and it has something to do with the servo pump. But when I asked a mecanic, he told me the noise comes from the suspension. But it seems more strange to me that the noise is only for a second when I rotate the wheels to the maximum! Could you help me with some information?
Thank you very much!

Good question, what kind of noise. Turn your car off, come back in 10 minutes, you'll hear all kinds of strange whirrings.

Usually it has to do with the power steering belt.

It's the rubber belt running in the motor compartment behind the radiator.

If you avatar pic is correct you have a M54 MY '03 - '05 E60.

Change the engine belt drives and if it doesn't help have your power steering pump checked out.

Check the level of the power steering fluid, if it's very low air could have entered the system which is hydraulic, and tiny bubbles are now running around in there. If so, top it off as instructed by your OM with the CORRECT FLUID then turn the wheel Lt - Rt max a few times, then drive as normal, the sound eventually goes away. If thats not it then it could be the belts or the pump itself.

The intelligence of the car would warn about that.

Funny, I don't remember seeing PSF level as one of the monitored parameters....but I could be wrong. I also just realized, we know nothing about his car.
