I noticed a strange thing tonight for the first time after having my E60 for over a year now. I opened the passenger front door to get something out of the armrest storage. Whilst in the car I put the key fob in the ignition and then took it out to get out of the car. By dong this the rear and front lights illuminated even after I closed the passenger door until the car was locked. As I had not seen this before I tried to do the same by opening the driver's door instead but the lights did not come and ti was the same with the door rear doors.

I repeated it again with the front passenger door and again the lights came on. Does anyone know the reason for this - it looks like some kind of safety feature but not sure why it only works with one of the four doors?

This is similar to a bug I reported very early on in my E60 "career."

Here's a couple threads where we talked about it:

Bug? sounds like a good safety feature.

Thanks for that - obviously a long standing software fault then. It would be a good safety feature I guess if it worked on all 4 doors or at least the driver's door.
