Sure it is aproximatively 50:50 for all models. But I remember seeing exactly percentage of the weight on front and rear... ex: 50,2% and 49,8%.

I am curious because the engine in 550i is much heavier that 530i. 530i weights 1565 kg and 550i weights 1735 kg, both manual tranny.

The difference is 170 kg which is a lot. I was wondering if 170 kg in difference are due only to the engine or to satisfy the proper famed weight distribution, there are some other changes in the car... Is there a possibility that a part of 170 kg are only ballast to ballance the weight on rear and front?

not anymore the 525i is actually the best of the 5 series sedans in weight distribution. 49.8/50.2 % Manual transmission and 50.2/49.8 % Automatic transmission. the 530i is 50.8/49.2 % Manual transmission and 51.1/48.9 % Automatic transmission

When you are splitting fractions of a percentage point there is zero difference in the seat of your pants. Let's not get too anal about the specs when we need to focus on improving driving skills. We already have one of the best sedans on the road. Here in the US, most drivers will tip the balance of their car if they lose the extra weight they are carrying inside their belts.

Okay. Looks like I did not explained my question correctly.

If 525i, manual transmission is 1550 kg and 550i manual transmission is 1735 kg, this means a difference in weight of 185 kg.

If this difference is solely the engine, how the 50:50 ballance is restored in 550i? If the difference is not solely the engine, what parts are added in the back of the car to restore nearly 50:50 weith distribution?

Good question. Never thought of that. It should be real neat to see that site with the weight distribution per every model.

And to midnightrider, don't get me wrong i 100% agree with you but the topic was brought probably just to be pure informative that's all. I for one find it very interesting. No one here i bet is going to really think a 525i will outhandle a 550i or whatever just because of thos 0.smth % difference.

I'm now courious about the 535d since it has a pretty heavy engine.

Yes, but looks like nobody knows how the famous 50:50 weight distribution is achieved with different engines?

Maybe some parts are re-positioned in the heavier engine models?! I dunno...
