I bought my '06 e60 used a while back. When I first got the car, I noticed the weather band reception was poor, but didn't think much of it and really had not listened to the WB substantively since. Recently, though, I've wanted to use the WB more. I've found the reception is so bad it is almost unusable regardles of what channel I select. At best, the strongest channel is audible with frequent periods of static typically timed to interrupt just when the short term forcast is being announced. At worst, the strongest channel is substantially inaudible; the static letting up only occasionally.

My expectations of reception quality are not out of whack, nor is it my location or my local stations. My previous car (an e36 M3) had WB. There were times that I listened to the WB frequently, and over the same route that I listen in my e60. I had none of these problems with the M3's WB.

So, does e60 WB just generally suck or is it my car?

Reception should be fairly decent. It needs to be examined in the workshop.

The WB reception in my '08 535 is also poor. I have had other BMW's that had the WB and had none of these problems. It seems to be an issue with the e60.

How do you access the WB? I keep hearing 'beeps' on all stations recently, probably due to the crazy cold up here lately.

I've never had good reception on the WB. WB1 is listenable, but the others are so full of static, that they're useless.

I just checked mine. WB1 and WB5 are great. The rest are horrible.

Does anybody know what WB stations are used in the states comparted to what is used in Europe?

It's common that only one or two stations are broadcast in a given metro area. In Dallas, station 1 and I think maybe 2 come in strong (but not on my e60). Interestingly, they're about 10 seconds out of phase, so if you missed what was said on 1 you could quicly flip to 2.

Google says WB stations are broadcast at 162.400 MHz to 162.550 MHz in the US.

WB is almost always poor. It's been that way on every radio I've ever had that could receive it.

+1

Any time I tune to the WB I can get several freqs. And at least one will always be 5-by-5.
