This is the part number for that Z4 button 61 31 6 953 942, it's the same price as the E60 button.

Where you guys are installing the this button on manual cars?
Anyone has a pic how it looks? I have just push button hidden under the center console storage but would like to put the sport one in visible place

Without going to the dealer, you get:
- Faster shift times
- Direct steering
- downshifting with intermediate throttle application

By going to the dealer, you get the following addional features:
- when sports button pressed, "SPORT" being displayed on your speedometer
-in DS mode, with sports button pressed, you actually see which gear the car is in

that is all i can think of at the moment..

But guys beware - the dealer will not readily program this for you... You need a "open minded" dealer to this for you. Mine was not willing to do it, though like i said, i found one in germany, but it is a 3000km drive for me :))

greetings

Gents,
I read the above post in the Sportautomatic (SAT) retrofit Thread. Is it possible, via coding/programming, to see what gear (M1, M2...M6) the car is in when in DS + Sport, or this is just for Sportautomatic (SAT)?

Do you mean S1-S6 modes because we already have (M) in manual mode if so, I have researched coding for that sat shifter a lot because I'm going to do it for a friend. IIRC there are two coding steps to that mod the first with ncs adding the vo for sport and then the second stage is flashing the egs firmware for the cars shifter ecu with winkfp to read your shifter as a sat shifter instead of regular steptronic. at first everyone was only doing the ncs expert part which I believe only let them see the word sport on the cluster, after words those that did the firmware flash said they notices with sport mode on and in manual they noticed the S1-S6

here is a post from that thread notice how he at first skipped the ncs expert part and just flashed his firmware and said he automatically saw a change in the cluster. Reading this makes me think that even if we were to do just the NCS part we wouldn't get the S in sport. mode I have ncs expert I'm wanting to try but Id rather not be the scape goat funny things happen to me when I mess with the VO

One major aspect this retrofit is missing is reprogramming the actual transmission module. The sports auto and standard auto have different software.

Using WinKFP, I flashed my standard auto (in a 535xi) to the sports auto software (in the case of the 535i, it's 7601458 as of Ista/P v41.. may have changed in newer releases). I had to clear a few errors in the DSC, EGS ,and DME, but after that the car had no complaints.

The transmission still works, and it feels like it shifts faster, particularlly in S and M modes. It's also a lot more aggressive about downshifting in S mode. I did *not* change my VO, nor did I recode my KOMBI (partly because $2TB was never an available option for the xi models). However, my KOMBI is behaving differently now; when I'm in S mode, it displays the gear the car is in instead of just simply showing "DS" - I will probably try adding $2TB and see if my KOMBI accepts it.

I have not retrofitted the sports shifter (yet), so I have not been able to test the actual sport button. But even without it, it's a pretty nice upgrade. And it does seem to work properly on the xi despite it never being available officially on the RWD models.

EDIT: Well the car did accept the $2TB VO without complaint, and I was able to recode the KOMBI without issue. The FSW_PSW does show changes, but I cannot say I actually notice anything different with the recoded KOMBI.

Nice!!! This mod didn't trigger that check engine light for you did it? ;)

On LCI you won't get S1-6 without flashing your EGS to the SAT firmware, I know because I've done the conversion myself. You get a 100% SAT mode after flashing ie throtte blip on manual downshift, and faster changes in SPORT mode. Without flash you just get heavier steering, when SPORT button is pressed
