Hi everyone,

I'm new here, having just acquired my 530dA Touring 05, dark blue metallic with sand leather interior. What a car! What a great forum this is, already learnt a few tricks (like the I-drive shortcuts and resetting the transmission!).

Anyway, before I took delivery of it, the twats that cleaned the engine bay probably sprayed the back of the headlights with a powerwasher, as there was lots of condensation in headlights. In the main, large area, it has all dried out now after three weeks, but in the eye-brows it's still there. Can I open up somewhere, attach a hairdrier and kinda "blow it dry"?

Thanks in advance,
Mike

You might be able to evaporate the water droplets but stains may remain! If you have any recourse back to the seller take it now! Don't wait toooo long or they may claim it's your doing. BTW, this a known problem with some e60 head lamp assemblies.

I had both of mine replaced under warranty.

Problem is the seller just says it is "normal, it will evaporate away". It doesn't have factory warranty any longer either. The consumer laws here (Sweden) will just refer to the age of the car and call it wear and tear and it is to be expected to maybe have to replace a set of headlights after 90k miles (as the odometer now says).

Proving him wrong is a long and arduous process and it is easier to take care of it myself DIY.

When the seller says it's "normal", what they mean is it's a common problem. When I was looking for my ideal 5, I must have looked at 100 of them at various dealers around the area (in my nearest town alone there are 6 BMW dealerships). I've seen this condensation on maybe 10-20% of E60s. Maybe it's just the ones that are sat on dealers lots for a long time.

I know it is relatively common in the main headlights, but not inside the eyebrows AFAIK?

I've seen the thread on changing the LED colours in the eyebrows and cutting them open, worst case, that's what I'll have to do.

What do new headlight units cost anyway? Roughly ?
