two months ago my car wouldn't start so it was towed to the dealer and they found out that a leaky tail light caused water to build up around the battery.
Anyway battery and tail light were changed.
Last night my backseat heater wouldn't work so this morning i opened the back panel to check the fuses, and guess what i found? A pool of water around my battery. I closed that sh$%&t and went back in.
Did anyone experienced similar problem?
Please help original warranty running out on the 31st.
Hi guys it's happening again my battery compartment is full of water. Any suggestions this is the third time now.

I was having problems with this every time it rained. I got sick of carrying around a pump to pump water out of my high dollar sedan so I removed the battery and some underside plastic and had a partner pour water from a cup to see where it was coming in. If you remove the tail light on the passenger side you can see that the water is supposed to travel down a chute built into the bumper. Since my car was in an accident and that whole right side from the b-pillar back was re-worked, there was a small gap between the chute and the body, which I filled with some plumber's goop (sealant). This seems to have done the trick, for now.

Wow!! That's pretty odd. I would insist that the dealer fix the problem. G/L

Hi,

I have the same problem in my 2005 E60. About 1 inch of water at the battery that is brand new by the way. Can't you just make a small hole in one of the platic bits below the battery so the water can drain. My car has never been in an accident.

i would check under the spare tire for a pool of water... if it can get in the battery compartment, then it might be able to get in under the tire... be sure you take out all the Styrofoam though to make sure you don't miss anything

Hi all, I had the exact same problem in my 2006 E60 Saloon. The water got in both the battery compartment and the spare wheel well. This damaged the PDC control unit and then in turn shorted out the Idrive screen in the front. Replacement cost was @?3,500. Thank god under warrenty!!

They dealer first replaced the boot seal and the light seals saying this was the issue. However this did not cure the problem. It appears that there is an issue with pre 2007 cars in two areas.

1. The vent in the sides of the boot/trunk can leak and they are on both sides of the car - this was my problem and they were both replaced with the updated vent that does not leak.
2. The sunroof - if fitted - drian vent can block where it ends underneath the car. this makes the water back up and then run down the front and rear A frames.

I hope this helps and good luck!

I also had the same issue with my '04 530i and water also got into the spare tire well area and shorted out the I-Drive. The steeler tried to blame it on me by saying I had spilt water in the trunk! What a bunch of clowns! After conplaining to the Service manager they agreed to cover it under warantee. This was great , but since they wasted my time and pissed me off I decided to dig into the history of the vehicle since it was a CPO. After checking the carfax that they never disclosed, I found that the vehicle had been in an accident (hit in the front and rear). I had a friend who works for the LAPD look into the accident report to get all of the info I needed. So I went back to the steeler and spoke with the CPO Manager and the General Manager and after showing them the evidence I found out that their previous CPO Manager would buy BMW's from auction regardless if they had been in an accident or not and then turn around and sold them as CPO approved vehicles. So, long story short... I got them to take the vehicle back and they upgraded me to a '06 550i CPO that I approved and kept the payment the same as it was for the 530!

Yes, it was a good ending to a bad situation and I was very fortunate to come out on top. If I could recomend one thing when dealing with a steeler that won't cooperate it would be... be persistent! Remember, this is your car and your money so fight for what you believe is right!

I hope everything works out for you!
