In my opinion Lexus has had a huge hit with the redesigned IS that they rolled out in 2006. I actually purcheased an IS350 over a BMW 3 series. The lexus ES is a boring car but the GS was more sportier but not on par with the 5 series. I think if Lexus brings alot of what they did with the IS into the new GS then they will have a hit on their hands. Naturally no car feels like a BMW, which is what has made BMW what it is but BMW hasn't always had the best luck when it comes to reliability and repair costs whereas Lexus has done a fairly good job in that department. I would love to get the new GS and 5 series next to each other and see how they compare but I'm sure the media will be all over it when it happens

Lexus is great... Just like honda/acura ... Nissan/infinity and all those precious imports but bmw is on a whole different shelf at the grocery store i mean i dont think any of you guys will compare a ferrari to your beemr? Different shelves.

Things like this can only result in good for all of us.

If there wasn't competition, we'd never get anywhere since there wouldn't be incentive for the leaders to improve.

I completely agree with one of the things the reporter lady said - the image a car company has is a very hard thing to change. Even after seeing a few Lexus IS-F's on the road (they're quite beasty machines, probably comparable to an M3), Lexus as a whole still has that old "boring lawyer" like feel. Hard to describe, but I'm sure most understand what I mean.
Lexus also has the LFA... but the LFA is something else completely. It's also more expensive than a Ferrari or a Lambo.

Also on the video, a Lexus exec was asked if it's a 180-degree turn from what they've done in the past - to which he replied "it's more like 90". Good start, but add another 45-degrees to that and we'll start talking.

Granted, I would keep an open mind on it and would like to see the final product in person. At any rate, there are more reputable Lexus dealers\mechanics in my area than BMW. As somebody mentioned earlier, competition is good and pricing will come into play.

BMW owns the fun factor. How is GS350's zero to 60 in 5.4 sec a threat?
