Here's the picture of my Trip Computer that shows 35.1 mpg. As you can see it also says that it was 11:32 pm, however that was Washington time, so it was actually 1:32 am, which is why I stopped and went to bed since I had been driving since 6:30 am. But I think if I had kept on going I would have seen these numbers stay pretty close to the same for the rest of the trip. The reason I say that is because for the rest of the trip I averaged 32.2 mpg (I've included a picture of that as well), but that was starting up cold the next day. I don't know what to say, but I do like everyone's input on this.

Big question for me is still if we talking us or uk mpg.... I'm quite sure 35.1 (uk) mpg is normal, but if your figs are us then this is 42.1 (uk) mpg - which is too high.
Although I can get this sort of milage easily on a long 50-70mph cruise....my consumption takes a BIG tumble from this in traffic or if I start playing around a bit...

that's good. my 2001 330i got about that mileage form seattle to pittsburg. did a 400 mile run with my 545 and got 24.5 and 26.4 on the return. the calculation on fill up was 1 mpg less than the computer. will be going to pittsburg at the end of the month and will post milage number than that 2700 one way.

If you really can do extended highway driving with little braking/ acceleration, the mileage can be great.
I got 35 miles per gallon for a nice flat stretch at only 55 miles per hour in my 545 (totally warm car, cool, sunny weather with no traffic); but at 75 miles per hour it's more like 27-28 miles per gallon. On the other hand, around the city, with aggressive driving, it's more like 15! So it doesn't surprise me that you can get great mileage in the mid-30s at moderate highway speeds.

The M5 has great mileage too, when standing still...

I'm still breaking in so I can't supply any real data to this discussion but I believe his numbers are probably close. In two weeks of combined city and highway driving I have noticed my average mileage increase up to 21 mpg. There are soooo many factors that affect mileage. Things like headwind/tailwind, terrain, whether the driver uses cruise control, tire pressure and a whole host of environmental conditions. Even road surface can impact mileage. I just hope once I get mine past the break-in period I get somewhere close to 30 mpg

I have to say that I generally regard the "computer" figures in cars with some sceptisism.
To my mind the only acurate way to establish your MPG is to brim the tank, drive, record mileage and re-brim the tank. Then calculate from those numbers.
