So, What's the forum's experiences with their stock pads and rotors giving out? I have 9600 miles on my 530xi and starting this past Monday, I noticed my steering wheel and brake pedal were putting out some nice vibration upon moderate to harder braking. It also does the cha cha in the wheel at 20mph, while drifting to a stop sign, with light pressure on the brakes. You know that "grab and release" feeling as you roll to a stop, as your head bobs back and forth?

It just seems like it came out of nowhere....one week fine, the next, serious vibration and grinding feeling in the pedal. I made sure to knock all the rust off that might have existed, so I am sure that it's not that.....drive 56 miles to work, round-trip and rode those brakes hard over the past few days to make sure I got rid of any excess rust. It's getting worse on a daily basis, but I have an appt. tomorrow. I just hope they replace them and don't just shave them, or I'll be back in 3 months. Am I the only one?

Sounds like your Rotors touch whater after a good hard drive.
have you been washing the car after a drive out or after work?
This is why I never take my car for a car wash after a drive the rotors will bend.
well get them to change a new set at the dealers.

just like to share with you.
I just change my to spoted rotors with the same size as oem 1s

My front rotors went bad at 20,000 miles. The inner vanes were rusted beyond belief, leading to eventual warpage. BMW replaced the front rotors and installed new pads under warranty. And don't worry about rotor resurfacing. My SA told me that BMW never resurfaces warped rotors. The rotors will only get thinner, leading to another incidence of brake warpage in the future.

I note you're a fellow Pittsburgher! No warping on mine (15,000 miles), but I did notice some heavy scoring on my left rear rotor the other day. I think part of Baum Blvd. kicked up (nasty potholes) in between the pad and rotor and cut a couple of deep gouges. I am planning on replacing my stock rotors and pads in the spring with cross drilleds, when I throw the summer wheels on so I'm not worried. In any case, I'm sure the dealer will fix you up. They won't grind them down, they'll replace.

UPDATE:

Just got back from the dealer. They replaced both front rotors, which, as I had suspected, were warped. I was suprised they lasted for only 9600 miles/10 months. They also balanced all 4 wheels. I didn't pay a dime. My SA knows I am a bit of a perfectionist (translation: PITA), so he doesn't bother charging me for "ongoing issues." Also, the guy couldn't get my front right wheel back on the hub. None of the 4 wheels would fit it. He had to file down the hub a bit, which was a bit disconcerting to watch. But, it went on eventually.

While I was there, I managed to snap a few crappy camera photos of their first M3 that just came in today. The car looks like a real beast in person. It was white with black interior, loaded at $70K. Also, as I was about to take out a 550 for a test drive by myself, my salesman comes running back out, taps on the glass and says, "Sorry, the is SOLD!" So, I had to get out and hang my head in disappointment, with bottom lip out.

Kind of off-topic, but do you know what that black thing is on the right side of the rear bumper? Looks kind of like tape covering something...a tow-hook cover maybe? No biggie, just caught me eye/curiosity. I haven't seen one up close yet.

That's probably where the tow hook/tie down cover goes. They don't install them until the PDI and that car was probably getting a PDI when the photos were taken...

Yes, it was the tow hook, tie down....both front and rear covers were still off, as you can see in the other front pics.
