Unhappy

37 degrees in South Florida this AM (wind chill = 28 degrees)

Hey you guys,
This AM turned the car on and drove off for about 2 minutes. I got a warning sign "triangle with a snowflake inside" do you know what is that??? I don't have my manual with me and thought that you folks up north got this message before...
Thanks.

37 deg or lower and you will get that sign and a warning chime...it's the temp that water freezes so it's possible there might be ice on the road...drive safe...

as always... a quick search will get you the info you need...

BMW really should have tried harder to make their warning signs more intuitive. The combination of the world wide known symbol for "warning" (the triangle), and the obvious symbol to represent "cold weather" (the snowflake) clearly isn't obvious enough Get your act together BMW guys !!

i know you're being sarcastic, but on the older BMWs, the car would just beep at 37 degrees. No visual indication whatsoever other than the 37 degrees would come up on the OBC. the first cold day every year someone would ask WTF that beep was.

In all fairness I was a bit surprised when I saw it this morning, but then I looked over at the screen and saw the frost warning and remembered. I don't think I ever saw it on my E39s, but it would have shown a message on the cluster.

technically water freezes at 32 degrees, but bridges and overpasses can be a few degrees colder than the ground, and thus might have water frozen on them at warmer ambient temps, hence the 37 degrees.

Thanks guys! I thought it was related to temp, most likely I will never see that snowflake again...

The basic point is correct but the freezing point is actually 32 degrees F (or 0 degrees Celsius). Anything under 37 is to basically warn you that freezing may occur on rood surfaces, especially overpasses and bridges. My previous car (VW Passat) was set to go off at 40 degrees F
