My Ride: E60 "Stripper"
Now C6 "Stripper"
Some people let their cars warm up on a cold morning for a minute, others start the engine and drive off right away.
Is it true that while warming up the engine the oil is not flowing through your engine and causing unneccessary wear and tear?
Shouldn't we at least let the RPM's go down a little if the car has been sitting for over 8 hours before we drive off? What do ya'all think?

My layman understanding is that combustion is more efficient under load than otherwise. While revving free, the oil is allegedly getting more diluted with unburned fuel than if the engine were under the load of moving the car. But, you can't prove it by me.

My manual for the 530i says that same thing. Do not let it warm off, drive right away.

[/quote]Its better to drive off right away slowly dont rev it too much keep it under 3500 RPMs or less if you wish and let the car warm up slowly. I would say use sound jugement if its -30 C. Let it warm up 30 secs or so before driving off then if its a concern to you but dont sit idle for like 5 mins to warm up.
