Cheaper and equally good

 

I paid about the same for the Blackberry Gateway. Although I'm sure there are plenty off-brand gateways that work, I'll stick with the name brand, just in case another member has issues I know Blackberry will stand behind their product with a warranty. I don't really want to vouch for a Miccus or whatever it's called . The Blackberry is sleek, tiny, sounds amazing and looks pretty cool too. Thanks for the info, just don't think it's worth saving 4 bucks.

I HIGHLY recommend this jack:
I have had it for almost a year and it is perfect. It tucks away in the cigarette lighter and is out of sight and mind and everything works perfect as a stock BMW audio bluetooth system would. For phone calls it goes through the car and for music back through the aux in.

 

Does anyone know where to get the blackberry gateway? The lowest I've found is $70+ shipping.

I am hoping that someone who knows the technical aspects of this can advise me as to whether this is a better "newer" device....

 

Yes that is the new gateway and it's priced the same on BB's US website also. The old one looked like this and is usually sold only through 3rd party retailers, hence it's expensive. Back in the day, it was much cheaper.

 

Do you know if it functions the same way? I am particularly interested in:
1) does it pair automatically when you start the car?
2) And as a second device?
3) automatically silences music when the phone is used?

No gaurantees. It sort of depends on the phone, whether or not your phone-bluetooth is paired natively with the car or through this, and the mood of the car.

Usually, there is automatic pairing.

I am assuming you understand that this gateway can also take calls and route them to the speaker.
At one point of time, your phone will be connected to one device only (either CAR or this BB unit). The music will go mute and the car will come through that connected unit. You cannot mix and match and assume that just the music flows through the BB gateway and the call comes through the car's CCC natively.

The way I use it is to keep my phone natively paired with the car and a ipod touch lying around to play music through the bluetooth gateway.
