And the "World's Best Engine" for two consecutive years in the 2.5-3 litre displacement category is...

BMW 335d.

Dunno which territory the OP's from.

Of ourse it's possible that the BMW 3 litre biturbo petrol could usurp the title.... next year...
Indeed and this great engine is about to be even greater! WAIT

I also vote waiting for the 535i and the new facelift while you are at it.

Nothing wrong with the 530i IMHO but the 535i should really be nice. Again, the downside is you may not be able to get a good deal until a few months after introduction.

Has anyone here actually been able to determine the release date?

thank you all for chiming in. the 530i w/ SP is an awesome handling car! i would opt for the powerful 550i, but the wifey is just not keen about having another gas guzzler. (mb 06 cls 500) we need a new car specifically for city purposes and the 530i came up because it has excellent fuel economy. furthermore, we are finally getting rid of the very troublesome mb 04 e320 and need another car asap. that's why i'm getting headaches on what i should do.... now why didn't bmw started production of the 535i alongside the 335i coupes/sedans this fall.

I would wait... the car will definitely be better. It'll probably have more standard features by then.

I have a 530 06 and it has plenty of power. Having had a car before with a turbo(saab 900 turbo)....they are more trouble then their worth.

My vote is to purchase the 530 07 and enjoy it now!

More standard features, more standard MSRP, more standard issues with first run production, besides that,
535 gets my vote

I would wait. I waited for the 550 for about 8 months and am glad I did. I am afraid I have not heard when the new engine will be available though.
