hi all,

i'm a rookie to this site and have to say you guys are very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about your cars. keep it up!!! after 3 prior mercedes-benz vehicles, i will finally jump off their bandwagon after test driving the 5-series. love the e60, way better handling than the e-class.

so, the dilema i'm facing is should i purchase a 2007 530i or wait for the rumored arrival of the bi-turbo 535i next year??? btw, if true, is the 535i coming in spring or late fall of 2007???? i was actually thinking about leasing the 2007 335i sedan and get a 5-series a few years down the road. but the 335i's interior space just doesn't do it for me. the 535i would be perfect because it has more power, yet, same gas mileage as the current 530i. that old saying "better things come to people who wait" is constantly spinning around my head.... what would you guys do???

The 'e' on the e60 stands for one in his class. Wait for the 535.

I say wait. It'll be hard but worth the wait.

No question. You must get the 535, unless you intend to drive like a grandpa. Heck, I'd pick the biturbo version over a 550i, unless they bumped up the hp in the V8 and add direct injection. (385 would be nice) A good strategy is to always shoot for the best engine or chasis upgrade available, particularly if its new generation type. The bi-turbo fits that bill. I wouldn't worry about the reliability of new BMW engines.

True, but I reckon discounts will be scarce on these new engines!

And the "World's Best Engine" for two consecutive years in the 2.5-3 litre displacement category is...

BMW 335d.

Dunno which territory the OP's from.

Of ourse it's possible that the BMW 3 litre biturbo petrol could usurp the title.... next year...

I have a 2007 530, and it just doesn't have enough umph. I would definately wait. I think the new engine will be in the sweet spot of performance and mileage.
