If I'm in the wrong place, sorry. Anyway, departed from Germany to Houston via Newark, NJ to get car at Pier 10, Galveston, TX. Have pics but no way to upload. The "gitterdun" boys at the VPC (pier) handed me my keys and wished me luck. There were three other ED cars waiting for pickup. MTF on the procedures in getting a car through the process but it was shipped out of Frankfurt by E. H. Harms and then processed by E. H. Hawthorne in Houston. Actually quite painless but $900 to ship (out of my pocket) and an overnight stay in Houston ($70) and rental car ($65) also at my expense. I'll be up and running end of March in Tampa, FL with more.

Hi everyone! So was this delivery because you are in the military? Did not know you can have your ED car shipped to a port to pick up?

Well cwoarmy is in the military, but basically he bought the car in Europe (not european delivery) and then, when transferred back stateside, had to arrange his own shipping of the car. This is totally separate from the ED where you drop a certain port and BMW ships it through their system and eventually the VPCs here in the US.

I don't think you saw the VPC. The one out here in Oxnard is a huge, very impressive facility. I doubt the one in Texas is a trailer. What you probably saw was a small outpost at the port that BMW uses to transfer cars from the port to the VPC.

" don't think you saw the VPC...

I think cwoarmy was just trying to be funny when he said he saw the VPC (pier)... From what I gather, he privately shipped the car home after being stationed overseas. Didn't use the BMW system at all, simply booked a spot on a US bound freighter.

kscarrol got me pegged the whole way.
Yes, I shipped at my own expense. Military shipped wife's car to Orlando. Closest port to next duty station. Trust me, I know its not a VPC. Its two ole boys in a trailer sitting beside the pier. There were semi's loading up all types of tractors, oversized road equipment and just off to the side was space for cars. There were about 10 waiting for someone to come get them. I chose Galveston because its the closest port to where I was going on leave and didn't want to drive across the US. So, thanks everyone and I'll post pics when I get my computer.

Beewang: No email?? But give me a couple of weeks and I'll be up and ready.

C-141?

Would someone need rank or special dispensation to transport their personal vehicle on one of those bad boys?
