Hey all,

I get my E60 on december 1st, and I am thinking of fiberglassing an enclosure for my Boston Acoustics Pro 12.5LF subwoofer in the spare tire well. The sub needs a 1 cu ft. (28 liters) enclosure, so I'm wondering if anyone knows the volume of the well.

I ordered the "premium sound system" (not L7), but will add my BA Pro 12.5LF sub with a Phoenix Gold XS2500 amp bridged for 500W RMS @ 4 Ohm @ 13.8V. Also have a 1F capacitor ready to be installed.

Even with the trunk being well insulated, this thing hits so hard I will have some nice added bass in the passenger compartment.

So I'm just wondering wether the volume of the spare tire well is sufficient (1 cu ft or larger).

Thanks !

The volume is definitely bigger than one cubic foot. The volume of the spare tire exceeds that. What dimensions do you need specifically?

If it's definitely bigger than 1 cu ft, I should be ok. Here are the important details:

Mounting Cutout Diameter
11" (280mm)

Mounting Depth
5-5/8" (143mm)

Recommended Enclosure
1.0ft ? (28 liters) volume sealed

The spare tire that is in there should be around 18" in diameter and the rim/tire width is more than 6", so the wheel well is bigger than that.

why dont you build off to the side. i build this enclosure for my mercedes and it took up little space and it sounded really good. Its a jl audio 12w6v2. here are some pics of the enclosure i just never did really finish the amp rack though.

you should be able to squeeze out 1 cube of air space also you can stuff the enclosure with sound dampening material and it will make the sub think its in a 25% larger enclosure. here is another pic ( kind of a crappy pic )

Small change of plans... I couldn't resist... So I think I will fiberglass an enclosure at the side as onefat99 has shown here, but it will no longer be with my Phoenix Gold amp....

Just bought a Rockford Fosgate Power 1051S amplifier, which will deliver 1050W RMS at 4 Ohm @ 13.8V !

Do you think I will hear my sub through the trunk insulation now ?
