Neither VR button gets a response from system. No beep, no cut out of other audio sources. All other audio sources work fine. Been bad for about a week, and stopped by dealer this AM. No faults found so they want to have me come in and leave car overnight for what my SA says is 20.1 (we know better don't we?). Said they have had it about 1 week. At same time they will replace driver window motor as about 1 in 10 times the window will go back down when trying to close. No anti trap message and both dealer and I can duplicate problem. I cannot remember any member having VR just quit on them, have you?

The SW update takes about 4 hours to unload and load.

I'm glad that you dealer takes you problem seriously.

I had this happen to me as well.

The CCC had to be replaced. My dealer diagnosed, replaced the CCC and reprogramed the car in a day.

That was my first thought. I'm sure the upgraded software will not fix it and in fact will probably crash during upload and show a bad CCC, but they have to work through it.

What ever happened with your car on this issue??

My VR stopped working today. The car has been sitting for 4 days as I've been out of town. This is the first problem I've had. Is it just a simple update?

Well over a 2 trip series of diagnosis trips, waiting for parts, etc. this was the final list.

1) The Invoice says customer says VA inop, no faults found reprogram CCC, replace TCU. The TCU MAY have been bad but it was not detected until the very end of my second time in when they got the parts in from the items below.
2)I had also complained of iDrive blanking out a couple of times. The invoice says SOP (standard operating procedure) to replace CID (This is the iDrive display and does not say they found a fault) CID ordered and was on US National back order so had to wait for 2-3 weeks.
3) Completely unrelated and only mentioned here as an aside - the driver window motor was ordered at same time for an anti-trap issue. It, too was on National back order.
4) Parts arrived and car back in for work including my request to retroit MP3.
5) I also got a call during the middle of their work effort saying they found a CCC fan (called a ventilator) bad and they had to get that parts as well.
6) I get a call saying all work was accomplished BUT when performing post upgrade checkout of actions the BMW Assist would not work and a TCU was required. Told by SA that of 6 models out there for TCU only one truly is good. BTW there are not more than 2 different part numbers in online parts list so these may have same part number but different rev numbers if he is correct. Anyway I had to wait for them to get TCU in and replace - another two days.
7) Car returned and everything works fine. What fixed Voice Activation? I do not know for sure. Three parts in area (TCU, CID, CCC Fan) but only 2 can be considered real candidates - the TCU and CID. I had the feeling, although they did not say this specifically, that VA worked after all their work, but prior to the TCU beging detected as bad, but I could also just as likely be wrong.

Sorry to be so vague.

That's f*ck*ing outrageous! I hope someone at BMW took a beating for accepting a solution that takes 4 hours to load software. Are they still loading a deck of punch cards?!

Thanks--- I won't be able to get in to the Service Dept for a couple of weeks due to my travel schedule but I'll let you know if they tell me they have to do to fix it.
