Voice control no picking up commands?
Guys, I have a few questions about my new car, I figured it's best to post them individually though, so here's one.....
My car (520d m sport e60 2009) has voice command function....
I rests the button on the steering wheel and speak one of the commands listed in the back of the manual, but I just get "sorry, please repeat ..... Sorry..... Cancel"
Sometimes it responds by just dealing the last phone number called ????
I'm speaking really clearly, the language is set to UK.... I direct my voice towards the speaker by the rear view mirror?
What's its beef?
It is useless ,!
It can't seem to understand anything I tell it?
Is this common?
Any suggestions?

I think you are facing the wrong way. Just sit normal, face normal and talk normal. But I think the mic is in the center overhead.

If you don't have nav, the commands you can give it are extremely limited -- basically just phone dialing commands. Try "Call". It's the most basic one.

As for last number dialed. If you just hit the button, it will dial the last number the car dialed. Not the last number your phone called.

Thanks guys....
I have the nav system, blue tooth phone And music system......but non of the commands work ? It just replies with something like " sorry, I didn't get that? Repeat command." Or words to that effect...
Is there a way I can have the system read out the commands to me, I'm guess if the system has limitations on what the spec is, the list it reads back will dictate the spec?
I don't think it's how I'm sat, where im directing my voice, it's just like I'm talking to an idiot
Sorry guys, I'm not to clued up on what nav system I have only just having got the car ( not sure on a lot of the terminologys just yet , like ccc? Etc)
I think it's the business nav system, it's quite clever and has lots of features like for example finding a cinema en route and giving me further options such as calling it (to book tickets I presume) or selecting nav route to it.....
So I think my spec should include the voice commands little further than the phone system.....
"Radio on" .... Sorry I didn't get that...... Nothing.......

Cheers sanj
Is there any way for me to find out what level of voice commands the car is kitted with then?
I did do the vin number checker to find the spec but I don't think what I found covered the whole inventory ?
Gonna spend some time with manual and I drive tomorrow to try and work it out.... It's just so frustrating that is won't pick up any one of the commands listed in the back of the manual ???
Maybe the mic is furred up with dust or lint ? Or broke ? Don't know.....
It's like talking to a partially deaf car.
Sorry, I didnt get that?

There's been some discussions on the UK Bimmer board.

You might try there too. Don't know if UK model is same as US in this regard.

Air Vents
Sorry to hear about your issue. In my experience, if the center dash air vents are pushing air up toward your face or the roof/microphone, it will wash out your voice command. Make sure the vent is pointed down and away from the microphone and your mouth. Good luck!
