My Ride: UK 2006 530D MSport. Auto, Silver Grey, Black Dakota, 172 19" Mixed Wheels, Visibility, Media Pack, Sun Protective Glass, Hi-Fi Speaker System, Heated Seats, Enhanced voice control, M Lip Spoiler.
Can anyone let me know what I need to do on my MY2006 to get voice control active. It was not a specified option (extended voice control) but do you get any voice control as standard..? Have the steering wheel button but haven't had a "response" as yet from the car.. I had read on this forum that it is purely a s/w option that dealers can apply..If so what are the costs on the UK..?

Yes you'll need Navigation. Specifically I think you need Professional NAV and not just Business Nav for the UK.

Apparently that is not enough. I have nav pro, and bluetooth, but in Europe, voice is not standard (it is in US ONLY).
I think you have to ask your dealer how expensive would be to have this option.
Anyone else with a solution is also welcome.

Oh wow... I thought it was standard with Nav Pro even in Europe... Interesting... Dang so Nav here was such a "bargain" I should have gotten it!

My Ride: Dec 2005 530d MSport Auto - Carbon Black/Amethyst Leather Comfort Seats, Professional Nav, Bluetooth, Logic 7 Sound, Active Cruise Control, Head-up Display, Bi-Xenons, Comfort Access, Extended Voice and Light, Sun Protection Glass
Hi ...
According to the 2005/2006 BMW 5 Series Accessory brochure (in the UK) :-
"Voice Input. Enable operation of navigation, telephone and most iDrive commands via voice command. Only for cars with Professional Navigation System."
Description is a 'Retrofit Kit', Part No. 84 64 0 396 162 - Price : ?49.95
Looks like (especially at such a low price) a simple replacement of the iDrive 'MENU' button with a smaller 'MENU' button plus a 'Talking Head' button. Presumably you already have a 'Talking Head' button on your steering wheel ?
Hope this helps.
Robert.
