Will tell you tomorrow. Car needed to be kept in overnight, so I'm collecting it tomorrow (hopefully!!).

Well the car is still in the garage. Basically what happened is they tried to upload the latest software, it was rejected by the main central computer, which meant they needed to order a new central computer. This arrived Sat morning, they kicked off the software update but it's going to take a few hours - and after finishing time. Hopefully collect it on Monday.

OK, so software upload has worked, but now the car has changed (due to new cpu) so it needs a new SO(?) number. This can't be downloaded, so it's being sent on a CD from Bracknell overnight. The car is still at the garage, hopefully pick it up tomorrow?

I believe this is what happened to me - they had to order a new CCC(?) that would accept it - then loaded software (7 hours) then needed a code from bracknell (overnight). Finally got car back late this afternoon - and voice recognition is working! It's great! Off to print the complete list of commands and give it a try.

Glad you got it sorted - my dealer quoted practically the same (?280) 2/3 months ago, but i know of people who've had it done for ?150ish -

so i still can't justify that expense

My dealer, Damon Hill in Warwick (UK) rang me today and left a message to say the voice option is now available but the price has gone up. When I origonally ordered it they quoted about ?260, the price today is now a whopping ?672 .

Frankly I think they are just taking the piss. They did say when the order was originally put on hold that they would honour the lower price but I can't see them moving that much.

If anyone can give me a definitive price for the work in the UK and the dealer they used, I will try and use that to squeeze a better price from them.

Regards

Fatlab

The "official " cost is the parts...(now 195 GBP including vat) and 12 units of workshop time (ie 2 hours) all bmw workshops work on the unit system where 1 unit is 10 mins.

different garages/dealers charge different rates for their units...generally highest inside M25 and reducing as you go north (with the exception of major cities)
