I was ordering some bits for Nicola's 1 series today so asked about this. It's a dash off job for fitting the electronics, plus obviously the trim on the tunnel needs to come off to fit the button. THEN the car needs re-coding, and we know how long that can take - estimate: 3 hours labour total. I guess the variable here is the amount of time it takes to recode the car.

He did not say however that the part was not orderable today...

I had a BMW GB Customer Service guy call me today and here is what he said:

1. The retrofit is available again. It was put on hold due to the confusion regarding pricing and the parts.

2. The kit now cost 195.00 pounds inc. VAT. This includes the hardware (I think this is what cost in Europe 45 Euro) and the specific coding information (that is charged 300 Euro on the Continent) The recommended labour time is 1.25 hours. BMW GB seem to have got the picture at last and have a one part number that includes the lot : 8464 0396162

3. There maybe another (additional) charge involved in coding the car, and it depends on "what your car has got" - iI was told- but I would advice to go and beat your dealer about it as I do not belive one should be charged for bringing the car to latest specs. In the end they make those software updates to fix and to improve things. On the car that in most cases cost well over 30K pounds it surely should be free to customer.

Please let us know if any of you manages to get it installed and how much the labour cost were,

Hope it helps,
Regards,
Wlodek

well worth having IMHO,

Only had my car a week but I'm already finding this a very useful option to have.

The temptation is to alter your voice when you speak the commands ie. slow and delib erate but I've found it works much better if I can just speak normally.

Just e-mailed my dealer parts dept and they confirmed PN 8464 0396162 is available to order by 50 ? I'm waiting for this since I've got the car, 'cause it was not allowed at the time.

Does anyone have the EBA instructions for this retrofit ?

Months ago, when they installed the AUX Input, they were trying to do it with the wrong instructions (E39) and only got it right after I handed them the correct EBA downloaded from this forum.

Cheers.
