I have the Nav and was told that the voice activation was to work with it.

My voice activation doesn?t work.

Is this something they are going to turn on later with a software update?

 

Yes, I understand it is a software update that can be done later. My dealer found that out.

 

When did you find this out?

I am getting mad about these small annoying issues I have in the first few days of owning this car.

I had no issues with my E39.

I probably got this thing too early in production.

The little things really bother me.

 

I heard Voice Activation is coming via software upgrade this spring. It's been mentioned several times on this board.

I just can't figure out why there's a delay. It works on the 7 series!!!

 

must be all-new integration issues: the computer / bav etc is obviously the same software maker as the 7 but not the same software so... version 2, anyone? bmwindows2005?

 

I picked up my 545 yesterday. I have NAV and the voice activation works. I doesn't understand me all the time but it does work

 

this update will start March 04, i'm not sure how you would get your 5 updated if you've already taken delivery. your dealer should contact you when the software is availible.

 

Can you control your radio by voice?

 

yes, the radio is the only thing I have figured how to control. The Navagation seems harder. I just need to take the time to learn the commands. I was told at the dealer that I needed to go through a setup guide to train it to understand my voice. I haven't figured out how to do that yet.
