Hi folks,

Is there an on-line tool that allows you to plug in a VIN number for a 2006 530xi and get the options and color combinations it has?

Many of the dealers here in North America (United States) list their inventory and show a VIN number, but all to often they don't list installed options and colors.

Thanks in advance for any help.

No; there aren't any online VIN decoders that have data for very recent BMW vehicles; further, the VIN itself does not contain all of that information. The VIN, combined with BMW's own internal manufacturing data and other recordkeeping, obviously lets a dealer find out such information. But the VIN will only contain the basics. The best VIN decoder out there for BMWs is:

http://www.bmw-z1.com/VIN/VINdecode-e.cgi

Example output is:

Code:
Chassis number ? ? ? BV51920
Vehicle code ? ? ? ? ? ?DD53
Series ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? E39
Model ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? 528i
Body type ? ? ? ? ? ? saloon
Catalog model ? ? ? ? ? ?USA
Production date ? ?1997 / 01
Engine ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? M52
Transmission ? ? ? ? ?Manual
Steering ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?Left
Catalyzer ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?YES

Additional Information for Vehicle code DD53

Production FROM : 1996/03/01
 ? ? ? ?? ? ? TO : 1997/08/31
Engine ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? M52
Engine Oil ? ? ? ?6.50 Liter
Transmission ? ? ? ? ?Manual
Transmission Model ?S5D 320Z
Transmission Oil ?1.30 Liter
Rear Axle Oil ? ? 1.00 Liter
Coolant ? ? ? ? ?10.50 Liter
Brake fluid ? ? ? 1.00 Liter

Yeah, like I said, it doesn't have (correct) data for recent vehicles...
