Hi All,

Long time reader, first time poster. Actually, it maybe 2nd or 3rd post. But thought it would be a good way to start. LOL

Basically I have finally summoned up the courage to retrofit a Pro Nav (CCC) sat nav unit to my beloved 535D. At present it just has the standard CD system with 6 disc changer (M-ASK).

Now I've read through many varying posts on the subject and have noted the main stumbling point is the coding. Some cars are already coded, others need coding, but fall into different issues with VINS versions, updates etc.

I went to my dealer and got him to print out a Vehicle Information report by providing my VIN no. They gave me a list of options fitted at factory on my car. All of them check out apart from one.

8SA - Country Specification release of Navigation.

My dealer has no clue to what this is and nor do the techies at the dealership.

Can anyone tell me if this means a) the car has already been coded for a navigation unit for UK, or b) the car is prep'd for navigation to slot straight in?

Also, there are two different versions of the Retrofit PDF floating around. One has just the main CCC unit, monitor, idrive and a couple of wires (LVDS). Another PDF has a whole host of things including voice activation mics etc.

How can you tell which ones for you and does the above code relate to the simple PDF installation, or will I have to go through the whole complicated installation.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Where about's in the Uk are you as I went from just a single slot cd player to full pro nav fitted from a very good independent BMW specialist here in Huddersfield who have a prologic unit to do all the coding.

it means that the part number of the unit is from a different country it is the same unit but with different number that is why it will not program. I had the same problem so I changed the the part number and it worked but i doubt you can find somebody to do that.

thinking of doing this is what ive garnered from reading posts here
you have two options

business navigation or professional

there is no direct upgrade path to professional the assumption being that you go from business to professional

business is the simplest route but less features looks like you have to
change out headunit
lose the oddments cubby hole(its a double din unit)
change the fasciia trim
attach gps antenna and route it back to shark fin at rear
idrive controller should be okay if not i think there is cance plastic inside might only need to be pushed up to make it idrive high
trickest part is removing shark fin you may also have to get new trim for pcd dtc buttons on bottom

professional is pretty much same as above but new LSDV cable needed for connecting to monitor
idrive high controller required
voice control module required
monitor needs to be changed to high res one

you change trim, monitor, cd unit to ccc, controller and for the antena you dont have to go all the way back it can be installed under dash and you can driectly upgrade if you have right units meaning correct part numbers

Thanks for the reply guys.

The two different PDF's are due to the option S6UA. If you have the option, then it says just change the 3 items, monitor, ccc and idrive.

If you haven't then use the other PDF, which says a lot of things have to be changed.

I'm kinda thinking I don't need all the mic etc. cr@p. Just the three items and maybe the LVDS cable and the rest is down to reprogramming.

The easy install:

CCC_EBA_Retrofit_E60.pdf

The complicated install:

CCC_Retrofit_E60.pdf

By the way, I live in Southampton, Hampshire, UK. So if there are any programmers nearby, please tell.

Also, if I go for a system out of a late 2008 car, will that make my life more difficult. I'm waiting for the guy to reply, and keeping my fingers crossed hoping it's the new CIC navigation system, which were included in the late 2008 cars. The reason I think it maybe 2008, is cause it's got the new style controller with all the buttons around it.

If it is the new CIC system, it will make your life more difficult.

You can't activate the NAV-unit without a specific code from BMW. Try google it, there's a long thread about the CIC retrofit on e90board.com

Have a nice weekend!

Yeah, I've been following that. But I'm thinking the screen + CIC + idrive + wiring harness + extras for ?700 is good enough to grab and store til there is a breakthrough.

The CCC units are going for that much alone at the moment
